What do you need to consider before designing?
Tami: With all of our projects #1 is client consideration. With this particular project there were only a few certain requests, she definitely wanted a “REAL” fireplace (you will see what I’m talking about in the before and afters), they have small children so storage was a must, and she wanted a dining area she felt would be good for entertaining the grown ups!
Krystal: For this project our client wanted her home to have more personality. It was already beautiful but it lacked a few key pieces like a proper fireplace and some storage. They have young kids so the design needed to be functional and practical but still have an “adult” feel to it.
What is your design process..how do you incorporate clients needs?
Tami: I feel like my process has to happen organically, I have to take time to reflect and spend some quiet time alone to really think of the vibe this person is like and imagine them in the space to figure out their story. That seems to be where sparks of truly original ideas seem to stem from for me. If I’m at a road block with vision I definitely scour magazines, nature, architecture…all the things! lol
Krystal: During our consult we honed in on what was the most important factors for her. After those areas were addressed we needed to implement them which included having a mantle on her fireplace, some type of built ins and a dining area that she can entertain her friends with. So we started with the built ins and worked our way from there. The outcome turned out AMAZING!!
What was your favorite part/room of the project?
Tami: That is a super tough one considering both spaces we designed are so different but for me seeing the construction and design come together in the Living Area was my favorite part. This particular client was so open to the design that we were able to completely create something from scratch. Having free reign like that was beyond cool.
Krystal: My favorite part of the project was creating a tile design for the fireplace that was completely out of the ordinary. Tami and I literally ripped apart the sheets of tile that were purchased and tile by tile we replaced them in an ombre effect. It came out STUNNING!!
My favorite room though is hands down the dining room! I mean that wallpaper and vibe in there is all kinds of moody and glam.
Where/what do you do to draw inspiration?
Tami: Inspiration comes from literally everywhere if you’re in the head-space to accept it. For me that’s why I require time to make that happen. During that process I’ve found inspiration in a random textile, shapes on a building even a flippin’ tree branch. Everything is what you make it.
Krystal: For this project the inspiration came from a beautiful wallpaper covering from Ellie Cashman that we actually ended up using in the clients dining room. It had the perfect amount of moodiness and femininity that I was going for in this design.
